GIOVANNA “NINA” ZANONI (Zucchelli) died peacefully June 27, 2010, at the age of 84, pursuing one of the passions of her life - tending her garden. Born in Varone, Trento, Italy, August 1, 1925 to Donato and Giustina (Zanolli) Zucchelli, she married Giulio Zanoni in September, 1949 and moved to Lethbridge in 1950. Nina was a strong woman whose life was shaped by the hard times caused by the war, by moving to Canada - without speaking the language, without knowing the culture, without any family on which to call - to create a better future for her and her children - and she was up to the challenge.

Nina moved to Nobleford in December, 1950 where she and her husband raised four children. Nina's passions were her children, her garden, camping and fishing. Her multi-year, award-winning Nobleford garden was a source of personal and family pride for Nina. Nina dedicated her life to taking care of the needs of her children and extended family. Nina lived a full life. A dedicated housewife and mother, she created with her hands and with her love a better future for her children and future generations. Her children will miss her and will be forever indebted to her for the love, sacrifice, devotion, life lessons and future she worked hard to build for them.

Nina moved to her new house in Lethbridge in 1992. She will be well remembered for spending many summers camping at Beaver Mines Lake where her grandchildren learned to fish and enjoy outdoors. Nina spoke with great pleasure of the many days she spent camping with friends and extended family.

Nina was predeceased by her husband, Giulio Zanoni, her sisters Tulia Meneghelli and Sandra Zucchelli and her brother, Antonio "Tony" Zucchelli. Nina is survived by her children: Frank (Germaine) Zanoni, Aldo (Michèle) Zanoni, Julie (Tom) Gruninger, Gerry (Debbie) Zanoni; her grandchildren: Allan, Daniel, Marc, Julia, Stéphane, Nicole, Nathalie, Shauna, Darren, Neil, Curtis, Taylor, Giovanna and Justeena; and great-grandchildren: Zachary, Jordan, Noah and Gianna. She is also survived by her brothers in Italy: Rodolfo, Agostino and Umberto; her brother from Lethbridge, Pasquino "Pino" Zucchelli and numerous nieces and nephews in Italy and in Canada.

Vigil Rites (Prayers) will be held at 7:00 pm on Wednesday, June 30, 2010 at MARTIN BROS. RIVERVIEW CHAPEL, 610 4th Street South, Lethbridge.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 1:00 pm on Friday, July 2, 2010 at ST. MARTHA’S ROMAN CATHOLIC CHURCH, 355 Columbia Blvd. West, Lethbridge, with Father Raul Hernandez, celebrant.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
